If you haven’t heard, there is a new kid on the block
— and it is not to be missed.

Tradition is a beautiful new restaurant and cocktail bar, nestled right next to Liberty Park. And while you’ve probably heard a lot about the food (because it is really, really amazing) — I want to make sure you also know this: the cocktails are just as incredible!

Hops’n’Cots Cocktail

If you are a craft cocktail enthusiast here in Salt Lake City, you are probably familiar with Natalie Hamilton, who used to run the bar program at FINCA. Natalie has now moved onto Tradition, and she has created a new cocktail menu that is unique, beautiful, and full of amazing flavors.

Here are few of the cocktails I was able to try,
as well as some of the outstanding food.

Ol’ Kentucky Nag Cocktail

The small plates that we had were all very tasty — this Cauliflower dish, however, was my very favorite. The cheesy grits will bring you to happy tears, they are so good.

Cauliflower: ROASTED CAULIFLOWER, GRITS, CITRUS JALAPEÑO GASTRIQUE ($9)

Gentleman & a Scholar: RYE WHISKEY, COGNAC, PLUM, ISLAY SCOTCH RINSE, BLUEBERRY CARDAMOM BITTERS, SAGE ($10)

The Bitters Lab seasonal Blueberry and Cardamom bitters in this cocktail were the perfect touch — and look at that plum! OMG, this cocktail was amazing.

Fried Green Tomatoes: GREEN TOMATO, CILANTRO PESTO, CHIPOTLE AIOLI, CHILI JAM ($10)

Let’s talk about the Hops n’ Cots cocktail (below). This cocktail is the creamiest, most well- balanced cocktail I have had in a while. Everything about it screams summer, and it is so smooth you could easily drink a few. Natalie really nailed it with this one; this cocktail truly showcases her understanding of how flavors work together. And, it is basically the prettiest cocktail to take photos of. It is what cocktail dreams are made of.

EGG WHITE, GIN, APRICOT, HOP & CHAMOMILE SYRUP, LEMON, IPA FLOAT ($10)

Funeral Potatoes: PAN FRIED POTATO CAKES, BACON JAM ($9)

Fish and Chips: TEMPURA FRIED ARCTIC CHAR, MATCHSTICK POTATOES, LEMON AIOLI, MALT VINAIGRETTE, WATERCRESS ($20)

Fish and Chips

Zen Garden: WHITE RUM, MATCHA TEA ALMOND ORGEAT, LUXARDO, BOURBON VANILLA GARNISH ($10)

Natalie also makes her own orgeat (a sweet almond-flavored syrup) — which is not an easy thing to make. This Zen Garden cocktail was super interesting. Sweet and creamy — perfect to have with one of Tradition’s housemade pies for dessert.

Spiced Cherry Pie: CHERRIES, LEMON ZEST, CAYENNE, BLACK PEPPER ($7)

The Spiced Cherry Pie was everything — the cayenne and black pepper gave it just the right amount of kick. And, if I didn’t know better, I would say this crust was handmade by my great grandmother herself. Outstanding.

Of course, a glass of Conde De Subirats Rose (sparkling rosé) was also on our dessert menu.

I just want to do this night all over again. And, of course, I want to try the rest of what Natalie has come up with on that amazing menu.
