This month, our hostesses Hollie and Gayle focused on created a cocktail based on three things: 1) a cocktail called The Fitzgerald, 2) ingredients they already had at home, and 3) keeping it simple and satisfying.
What they created was a beautiful, craft cocktail that anyone can wake up on a Sunday afternoon and make themselves.
I introduce you to the “I Woke Up Like ‘Dis” cocktail!
The Fitzgerald is a super simple cocktail and is a great base to build something creative from.
The Fitzgerald Cocktail
1.5 oz dry gin
0.75 oz lemon juice
0.75 oz simple syrup
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
To change this great cocktail up, Gayle and Hollie chose to use Scrappy’s Lime Bitters (provided by Boozetique) in place of aromatic bitters. They also created a beautiful and delicious fresh ginger simple syrup that added a bit more depth to the flavor profile. Last, they really “summer-ed” up the cocktail by finishing it off with a dash of soda or tonic water. The little bit of effervescence made it so super refreshing!
This next photo is definitely my favorite of the bunch!
This is GAYLE! Can you hear her laugh? 🙂
I Woke Up Like Dis
1 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 oz fresh ginger simple syrup
1.5 oz Beehive Jack Rabbit Gin
2 dashes lime bitters
Shake with ice, strain into a coupe, top with soda or tonic, garnish with a lemon!
(To create the ginger simple syrup, add equal parts sugar and water and fresh ginger. Bring to a boil and stir until dissolved. Strain out the fresh ginger and refrigerate).
We had such a lovely afternoon with a huge group of smart, funny, beautiful women — enjoying cocktails and great company. Why doesn’t everyone do this EVERY Sunday?
I want to thank Gayle and Hollie for all the work they put into hosting such a fun and educational event and also everyone who filled our bellies with incredible food.
If you want a new summer go-to cocktail – the I Woke Up Like ‘Dis might be the one for you! And remember, all you have to do is have a nice bottle of gin, and open your fridge (you know, if you are an adult person who has produce).
ha!
